On Thursday 3rd March, seven students took part in a glittering concert in front of a thousand people at Queen Elizabeth Hall. As part of the Music in Secondary Schools Trust’s annual event, the students were part of both the orchestra and massed choir, performing repertoire by John Williams, Quincey Jones, Sibelius and Jonathan Larson.
A lot of preparation went into the performance with students needing to rehearse at school and in the evening with a trip to Highbury Grove City of London Academy, the night before the concert for a three-hour rehearsal. I was so impressed with how up for it all of our students were. If they were tired or phased by any of the hard work they had to put in, they never let it impact their professionalism or performance standards; they just kept going.
The culmination of the event was all 300+ school students on stage together singing and playing, ‘This Is Me’ from ‘The Greatest Showman’. It was a remarkable way to mark a return to performing on stage after a two-year hiatus, and the students of Frederick Bremer were truly brilliant! As well as being a pleasure to spend time with, they made everyone proud of how well they performed, prepared and conducted themselves on the day (which was a long one, complete with tube strikes!). A massive well done to everyone who took part in this fantastic day
