Thinking Outside of the Box

Throughout the Spring Term, our school has worked closely with the prestigious international law firm Simmons and Simmons on the Young Talent Programme. This is the eighth year of the scheme, in which year 10 pupils apply, attend shortlisting events and are interviewed to undertake work experience at international law firm, Simmons and Simmons; following on from work experience, the selected few undertake a paid internship after their GCSEs in year 11 and have the opportunity to apply for a university bursary!
In the first half of this term, over 80 year 10 pupils submitted applications, with 34 pupils shortlisted to attend an introductory event at the Simmons and Simmons head office near Liverpool Street Station. From this event, pupils were further shortlisted and interviewed, with 14 being accepted onto the programme. Simmons staff were very impressed with how our pupils presented themselves, how eloquent they spoke and how much effort they put in to the whole process. They will be undertaking their initial work experience over the Easter holidays and are very excited about the experience!

Those pupils who did not make it to interview were invited back to the Simmons and Simmons offices in mid-March to take part in a negotiation and interview skills session. It was really enjoyable for accompanying school staff and Simmons staff members to watch pupils engage in the activities with such interest. Special mention to Rem for winning both the ice breaker challenge and being part of the winning negotiating team.
