Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day

We commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day at Frederick Bremer in January across the school through assemblies delivered by a group of year 10 students and selling purple ribbons for the  charity Refugee Action. We were fortunate enough to have a Holocaust Survivor, Harry Olmer, from the Holocaust Education Trust come in to speak to year 9 pupils about his testimony and experience during the Holocaust. The year group were fantastic throughout his talk and asked him some really insightful questions about his experience.

Also the following students, Salsabil, Abigail, Kyle and Arely took park in the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s Art Competition on the theme of ‘Torn From Home’. They had to design a house on this theme which was then sent to London for the commemorations of Holocaust Memorial Day on the 27th January.

Comment from the students: “The home is so much more than just a building. It is the people in it and the community around it, the objects you surround yourself with and the memories that are associated with it. I feel like when I’m in my house I am safe because it is the place I have known for so long.”
