On Thursday 20th September, Frederick Bremer held the first of its 10th Anniversary celebrations; its first ever Prizegiving evening. Preparations for the event started in July 2018, where staff were asked to nominate pupils to win awards for academic achievement, contributions to the school, and leadership to name a few.
The event began with staff, parents and winners sharing refreshments before being led into the Main Hall and to take their places. Maya in Year 11 played a beautiful piece on the piano to open the ceremony. Ms Smith, the Headteacher welcomed our guests followed by our Head Students who gave a brief history of Frederick Bremer School and the site on which it is built.
The awards section of the evening began with prizes for progress and achievement in curriculum subjects. Winners from Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 were awarded their prizes by the Headteacher and cheered on by family and friends.
After a moving violin piece played expertly by Kristiyan in Year 9, our Special awards were presented. These included the Bremer Spirit award, Outstanding Leadership, Head of Year awards, Most Improved student, Head Student service awards and the Resilience award. Members of staff spoke with genuine pride and emotion, as they described why each winner was deserving of a prize.
Before moving on to our most prestigious wards of the evening, we were treated to a moving performance of “I Know Where I have Been” from the musical Hairspray performed by Teigan in Year 11 and Sam in Year 10’s rendition of “Valz” by Chopin.
Ms Smith spoke passionately about the winners of the Outstanding Contribution to the School, Headteacher’s award and the Star Alumni, leaving us with no doubt as to why they had been chosen for this significant prize. Frederick Bremer Alumni and winner Yasmin closed the proceedings with a short speech about her time at the school as well as giving our current pupils some sound
advice on their aspirations and career goals.
Staff, pupils and parents alike left the event abuzz about the year to come and we look forward to next year’s event being bigger and better with a wider variety of winners from across the Frederick Bremer community.
